The source video for the projections in this piece was a ten minute clip of slowly-changing arm and hand gestures, recorded in the gallery below our accommodations in Perth. The video ran on laptops feeding two projectors. Palindromic loops of the gestures were generated in real time as loop points shifted over the ten minute sequence. OSC data via ethernet co-ordinated a fade to white for both images before new loop points were chosen.
The sound work involved samples of voice and bamboo flute manipulated live via MAX/MSP and a touch-sensitive effects unit, mixed with live sampling/replay of sounds created by bowing a small zither and striking the prepared strings. The voice and flute samples used in the piece were recorded in a disused mill four high stone walls and no roof during a residency in Guelph Ontario in September 2004. |
